The downtown of language is ostension: by which we mean the grammaticalization of sentient practice **and** social practice. But ostensive language is not fact-stating; it is possibility stating. It is for indexing a position in a corroborative scenario. The stipulate is implicit in the pragmatics of the formulation. And natural language has words that allow the stipulate to be made explicit--says, believes, knows.
The downtown of language is _situating_ aspects of objects in a scenario. Modal description. Alethic modality.
Metalanguage, metaphysics, suspensional language attempts to articulate the preconditions of ostensive language. Transcendent language attempts to articulate the intersubjective concepts as if they were ostensive.
Do we have a new device? suspension-ostension-transcendence?
